Celebrating Our Heritage – Preserving Memories
The Historic Society is joining with the Emanuel County Commissioners in restarting the old Keep Emanuel Beautiful program.
Commissioner Jim Sherrod spoke at the recent Emanuel County Historic Society meeting on the goals of this program, and George Elder spoke on getting the organization started and connecting with Keep America Beautiful.

We would like to share with you a summary of the planned meetings for this year. Please be aware that schedules could change, and we will do our best to keep you informed.
Our quarterly meetings are potluck supper meetings, most of which are held at the Earl Varner 4-H Center located at 220 S. Circle Dr, Swainsboro, GA 30401. Visitors are welcome! Meat and tea are provided. Members are asked to bring salads, side dishes, or desserts.
January 26, 2023: 7 PM – Winter potluck supper meeting – Earl Varner 4-H Center
April 27, 2023: 7 PM – Spring potluck supper meeting – White Building at Longview Farm and Home Museum
July 27, 2023: 7 PM – Summer potluck supper meeting – Earl Varner 4-H Center

October 22, 2022 – 5 to 8 PM at the Longview Farm and County Museum, 133 Museum Rd, Swainsboro, GA 30401
Come join us for a delightful evening of History with a “Ghostly Twist”!
We have been told of an apparition, a good one, having been seen in the neighborhood of the Farm and County Museum for several years, so that gave us the idea of sharing the history of our outbuildings…with a twist… during our Fall Open House this year!
Our outbuildings are rich in the history of this county, and we are going to tell that in four of the buildings: Coleman Academy (the one-room schoolhouse), Stevens Crossing Post Office, Sycamores (the dogtrot house), and the Hendley Cabin. This history will have a little twist to it, based on facts mixed with fiction and a surprise “ghost” story built in.
Not to worry! This “ghost” is a good person, full of love and understanding. We will not involve scary, spooky ghosts. This will be suitable for children of all ages.
All buildings will be open during the open house.
No admission is ever charged at the Longview Farm and County Museum.

Our Summer Quarterly Meeting of the Emanuel County Historic Preservation Society will be held at 7 PM at the Earl Varner 4-H Center on South Circle Drive in Swainsboro, Georgia.
A potluck supper is planned, so please bring a dish to share.
We will have a very short business meeting after the supper followed by an interesting program concerning Keep Emanuel Beautiful.
