56 Drive-In Sign at 50th Reunion

SHS Class of 1969 50th Reunion pose before the 56 Drive-In Theatre Sign

The 56 Drive-In Theatre sign is in the process of being restored in Statesboro. The bases for the lights are on the panels, and the sign was brought to the 50th Reunion of Swainsboro High School Class of 1969 so class members could see the progress that has been made on restoration of the sign. Afterwards, the sign was returned to Statesboro so the restoration can be completed.

Bells Entertain at April Meeting

At the April 25 Annual Meeting, ECHPS members and guests enjoyed a delightful musical program presented by Amanda and Brandon Bell, a talented husband-and-wife duo. Keeping with the spirit of preserving history, the Bells shared the origin and history of old hymns and Irish songs before singing each one.

The Emanuel County Historic Preservation Society met at the Farm and Home Museum for the annual meeting. Prior to the entertainment, the members and guests enjoyed a delicious covered dish supper.

Following the supper, George Elder presided over the business meeting, and John Derden presented the board members and officers for 2019-2020.

Missy Elder introduced Amanda and Brandon Bell who also partnered with ECHPS to provide music for Pine Bark Stew during our celebration of the Bicentennial. We are grateful to Brandon and Amanda for sharing their talents with us!

Spring 2019 Quarterly Meeting

The Emanuel County Historic Society will host its annual meeting Thursday April 25th at the Longview Farm and Home Museum.

The gates will open at 5:00 PM for tours and the covered dish dinner will begin at 7:00 PM.

Amanda and Brandon Bell will present some old gospel and other songs and give us the history on them. This should be a very interesting program, a twist to our presenting history of the county.

It will also be a meeting whereby officers and directors are elected for 2019-2020.  Please plan to attend.  Being a member is not required

We have some more buildings completed, such as the commissary, shown in this photo.
